How it works
- Drop one or more videos anywhere on this page.
- Keep 'Original' for a lossless copy, or choose WAV, AAC (M4A) or Opus.
- Download the audio file.
Copy or convert
With Original, the default, the sound track is lifted out of the video exactly as it was recorded, with no loss and in seconds: an AAC track becomes an M4A, which every phone and computer plays. Choose MP3 when the file is for an old car stereo, a website or someone who asks for one; WAV when you will edit the sound; Opus when it has to be small. The presets set the rest: Voice memo gives mono MP3 at 16 kHz, Music gives stereo at high quality.
A lecture, a song from a concert clip, a voice note from a video
The small player under the options lets you find the start and the end of the part you want and press Use current for each; with Original the cut is made without re-encoding, on the nearest frame boundaries. A spoken recording can be made mono and dropped to 16 kHz, which cuts its size to a fraction without hurting clarity. Up to 10 videos of up to 2 GB can be queued with the same settings.
Good to know
MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM and MKV are accepted, and audio files too, which makes the tool a quick cutter for them. The reading and writing happen in your browser, so the video never leaves your device. A WAV grows by about 10 MB per minute, so keep it for editing, not for sharing.
Why people use it
Free, no account
Every tool is free, with no sign-up, no e-mail address and no limit on how often you use it.
Your files stay on your device
The browser opens the file and processes it in memory, on your device. Nothing is uploaded, so nothing can be kept, leaked or looked at.
No watermark
The result is yours as it is: no watermark, no branding, no trial version.
Any device
A phone, a tablet or a computer with a current browser is enough: no app to install, no software to update.
Works offline after the first visit
The browser keeps the pages and their engines, so a tool you have opened once keeps working without a connection.
Open-source engines
The code that does the work is open-source software, named on the Licences page, running as WebAssembly in your browser.
Why it is private
Everything you type or drop here is handled by your browser, on your device. Nothing is uploaded. To verify, open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and use the tool: you will see no request carrying your data.
While a file is being processed, the counter under the result shows the page's network traffic: 0 requests and 0 B for your data.
How to check it yourself, step by step
What you can check yourself
Open your browser's developer tools on the Network tab before you drop a file: while the tool works you will see no request carrying your data, and the counter under every result shows the page's own measurement.
The site sets no cookies, so there is no cookie banner. Anonymous usage counts and error reports without file names are the only things that leave the page, as the privacy policy describes.
Every change goes through thousands of automated tests in three browser engines, including a guard that fails a test if a single byte of a file leaves the page.
Frequently asked questions
- Which file do I get with 'Original'?
- The audio stream exactly as it is in the video, in a matching container: AAC becomes .m4a, MP3 stays .mp3, Opus and Vorbis go into .ogg, FLAC stays .flac, PCM becomes .wav. No re-encoding, no loss.
- Can I get an MP3?
- Yes. Choose MP3 and the track is encoded on your device with LAME, loaded as a separate file only when you ask for it. Pick the quality (128 kbit/s is the usual), mono for voice, and a sample rate; the 'Voice memo' and 'Music' presets set these for you.
- Can I keep only part of the track?
- Yes: play the file in the small player under the options, press 'Use current' at the start and at the end you want, or type the times as m:ss. With 'Original' the cut is made without re-encoding, on the nearest frame boundaries.
- Why WAV?
- WAV is uncompressed and opens in every editor; use it when you want to edit the sound. It is large: about 10 MB per minute.
- Does the file leave my device?
- No. The audio is read and written by Mediabunny in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
- Can I convert MP4 to MP3 on my phone?
- Yes, in the phone's browser, without an app. Drop the video, choose MP3 and download; Original gives an M4A even faster, with no loss.
- Which quality should I choose for MP3?
- Low for speech and podcasts, Medium for most uses, High for music. Mono halves the size of a spoken recording.
- Does extracting lose quality?
- Not with Original: the track is copied as it is. MP3, AAC and Opus re-encode the sound and lose a little; WAV keeps every sample but is large.
- What if the video has no sound?
- Then there is nothing to extract, and the tool tells you instead of producing an empty file.
- Can I take the sound from a WhatsApp video or a screen recording?
- Yes. Any MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV works, whatever app saved it, as long as your browser can decode its sound.
Install it as an app
Chrome, Edge and Android browsers offer to install this site from the address bar or the menu; on iPhone use Share, then Add to Home Screen. It opens like an app, keeps working offline and still processes everything on your device.
