Rotate PDF

Fix sideways scans and upside-down pages in seconds. The rotation is written into the PDF, so it opens the right way up everywhere. The file never leaves your device.

Options

How it works

  1. Drop one or more PDFs anywhere on this page.
  2. Choose the angle (clockwise) and, if needed, which pages, like 1-3, 5.
  3. Download the rotated PDF.

Scans that came out sideways

A scanner or a phone app often saves pages turned by a quarter, or a whole batch upside down. Choose the angle, drop the file, and every page is turned; or limit the fix with Apply to: only odd, even, landscape or portrait pages. Odd and even is the cure for a duplex scan where the back of every sheet is upside down, and Landscape pages fixes the wide tables in a report without touching the text pages. Single pages can also be turned one by one in the grid.

Why nothing is lost

The rotation is saved as a page attribute, which every PDF reader honours, so the pages open upright on phones, in browsers and in print, and the content itself is untouched: text stays selectable, images keep their resolution, and the file grows by only a few bytes. A handful of very old programs ignore that attribute; if a page still shows sideways there, convert the pages to images with PDF to JPG and build a new PDF from them.

Batches and the next step

Up to 20 PDFs of up to 200 MB each take the same angle in one run, each downloading separately. The rotation runs on your device, so a contract or a medical scan is never uploaded. From the result you can go on to reorder pages in Organize PDF, pull some out in Split PDF or shrink the file in Compress PDF.

Why people use it

  • Free, no account

Every tool is free, with no sign-up, no e-mail address and no limit on how often you use it.

  • Your files stay on your device

The browser opens the file and processes it in memory, on your device. Nothing is uploaded, so nothing can be kept, leaked or looked at.

  • No watermark

The result is yours as it is: no watermark, no branding, no trial version.

  • Any device

A phone, a tablet or a computer with a current browser is enough: no app to install, no software to update.

  • Works offline after the first visit

The browser keeps the pages and their engines, so a tool you have opened once keeps working without a connection.

  • Open-source engines

The code that does the work is open-source software, named on the Licences page, running as WebAssembly in your browser.

Why it is private

Everything you type or drop here is handled by your browser, on your device. Nothing is uploaded. To verify, open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and use the tool: you will see no request carrying your data.

While a file is being processed, the counter under the result shows the page's network traffic: 0 requests and 0 B for your data.

How to check it yourself, step by step

What you can check yourself

Open your browser's developer tools on the Network tab before you drop a file: while the tool works you will see no request carrying your data, and the counter under every result shows the page's own measurement.

The site sets no cookies, so there is no cookie banner. Anonymous usage counts and error reports without file names are the only things that leave the page, as the privacy policy describes.

Every change goes through thousands of automated tests in three browser engines, including a guard that fails a test if a single byte of a file leaves the page.

How we test

Frequently asked questions

Is the content re-rendered?
No. qpdf changes only each page's rotation attribute and keeps the rest of the file as it was: text, images, quality and fast-web-view linearisation. The size changes by a few bytes. A digital signature does not survive: the file is written anew, so the signature no longer validates, and the result says so. If a damaged file cannot be carried over, it is rewritten with pdf-lib instead, and the result says so too.
Can I rotate only some pages?
Yes: enter them in the Pages field with commas and dashes, for example 2, 5-8. Leave it empty to rotate every page.
Which direction is 90 degrees?
Clockwise. Choose 270 for a quarter turn counter-clockwise, 180 to flip a page upside down.
Is the PDF uploaded?
No. The rotation is done with pdf-lib in your browser; the document never leaves your device.
Can I rotate every other page?
Yes. Set Apply to to Odd pages or Even pages, pick 180 degrees, and the upside-down backs of a duplex scan come right while the fronts stay as they are.
Can I rotate a PDF on my phone?
Yes, in the browser, with no app. Choose the file from Files or your downloads, pick the angle and save the rotated copy.
Will the rotation stay when I open the file elsewhere?
Yes. It is written into the PDF, not just shown on this page, so the pages open upright in any reader, in email previews and when printing.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
Yes. A scanned page is an image, and it is rotated the same way; the scan is not re-compressed and keeps its quality.
Can I turn one page differently from the rest?
Yes. The angle above applies to all pages, and the thumbnail grid lets you turn single pages left or right on top of that; Reset page turns undoes those.

Install it as an app

Chrome, Edge and Android browsers offer to install this site from the address bar or the menu; on iPhone use Share, then Add to Home Screen. It opens like an app, keeps working offline and still processes everything on your device.
