Text tools

Paste text and get the numbers you need, in any language. The text stays in your browser.

What the text tools do

The word counter counts words, characters with and without spaces, sentences and paragraphs as you type, shows reading and speaking time, and keeps you under a limit: 280 characters for a post, 160 for a meta description, a word count for an essay. Compare texts (diff) shows what changed between two versions, by line, word or character, with the differences highlighted side by side. OCR reads the text out of a photo, a screenshot or a scanned PDF in your language and gives you editable text or a searchable PDF.

Languages and privacy

Counting and comparing work in any language, including languages without spaces. OCR comes with English, Romanian, Spanish and Portuguese models and a dozen more, downloaded once from this site. Whatever you paste or scan stays in your browser: nothing is sent, stored or used to train anything.

Questions

How accurate is the OCR?
Very good on clean, straight scans and screenshots; weaker on low light, skew and handwriting. A sharper photo helps more than anything else.
Can I compare two files?
Yes: open a text file on each side, or paste. Large texts (hundreds of kilobytes) are compared in a background thread so the page stays responsive.
Is my text kept?
The word counter remembers your draft in your browser's storage so a reload does not lose it; a Clear button removes it. Nothing leaves your device.
