QR code reader

Drop a screenshot, paste an image or point your camera: the code is decoded on your device and shown as text or a link.

Updated October 31, 2026

Drop an image anywhere on the page, paste it, or scan with the camera.

How it works

  1. Choose an image, paste one, or start the camera.
  2. The code is decoded instantly; several codes in one image are all listed.
  3. Copy the text or open the link.

Screenshots, photos and the live camera

Most codes you need to read are already on your screen: a ticket in an email, a payment code in a chat, a Wi-Fi card someone photographed. Take a screenshot, drop or paste it, and the content appears; several codes in one image are all listed. HEIC photos from an iPhone work, as do PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF, AVIF and JPEG XL, up to 50 images per run. Use camera reads a code from a poster or a parcel through the browser, with no app installed.

What you get back

The raw text is always shown, and the tool recognizes what it is: a link opens with one tap, a Wi-Fi code shows the network and the password, a contact saves as a .vcf, an event as an .ics, a location as a map link, and a phone number or SMS as a call or message button. The whole list can be copied or saved as .txt or .csv. Decoding runs on your device, so a code holding a private link or a password is not sent anywhere.

When nothing is found

Blur is the usual culprit, then glare, a code photographed at a steep angle, or one printed light on dark. Crop the image to the code, retake it closer and straighter, and make sure the whole code including its white border is in the frame. A barcode needs its full width visible. A code that is damaged beyond its error correction cannot be recovered by any reader.

Why people use it

  • Free, no account

Every tool is free, with no sign-up, no e-mail address and no limit on how often you use it.

  • Your files stay on your device

The browser opens the file and processes it in memory, on your device. Nothing is uploaded, so nothing can be kept, leaked or looked at.

  • No watermark

The result is yours as it is: no watermark, no branding, no trial version.

  • Any device

A phone, a tablet or a computer with a current browser is enough: no app to install, no software to update.

  • Works offline after the first visit

The browser keeps the pages and their engines, so a tool you have opened once keeps working without a connection.

  • Open-source engines

The code that does the work is open-source software, named on the Licences page, running as WebAssembly in your browser.

Why it is private

Everything you type or drop here is handled by your browser, on your device. Nothing is uploaded. To verify, open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and use the tool: you will see no request carrying your data.

While a file is being processed, the counter under the result shows the page's network traffic: 0 requests and 0 B for your data.

How to check it yourself, step by step

What you can check yourself

Open your browser's developer tools on the Network tab before you drop a file: while the tool works you will see no request carrying your data, and the counter under every result shows the page's own measurement.

The site sets no cookies, so there is no cookie banner. Anonymous usage counts and error reports without file names are the only things that leave the page, as the privacy policy describes.

Every change goes through thousands of automated tests in three browser engines, including a guard that fails a test if a single byte of a file leaves the page.

How we test

Frequently asked questions

Which codes are supported?
QR, Micro QR, Data Matrix, Aztec, PDF417 and the common 1D barcodes (EAN, UPC, Code 128, Code 39).
Does the camera image go anywhere?
No. Frames are analyzed in a Web Worker on your device and dropped; the camera stops as soon as a code is found.
Why does a blurry photo not scan?
The decoder needs the modules (the small squares) to be sharp. Retake the photo closer, in better light, or crop to the code.
Is a Wi-Fi code shown with the password?
Yes, the raw content is shown exactly as encoded, so you can see what you are about to join.
Which image formats can I scan from?
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, HEIC from an iPhone, AVIF, TIFF and JPEG XL, several at once; the results stay on the page until you clear them and can be copied or saved as .txt/.csv. A contact becomes a .vcf, an event an .ics, a location a map link.
Can I scan a QR code from a screenshot on my phone?
Yes. Take the screenshot, open this page in the browser and choose the image from your gallery; the content is shown without uploading the picture.
Can I scan a QR code without installing an app?
Yes. Use camera asks the browser for camera access and reads the code live; it stops as soon as one is found. If the camera is refused, choose a photo instead.
Can I read many codes at once?
Yes, up to 50 images per run, and an image may hold several codes. The results stay listed until you clear them and can be saved as a .csv.
Does it read product barcodes?
Yes: EAN, UPC, Code 128 and Code 39 are decoded to their number. It does not look up what product that number belongs to.
Does it open links automatically?
No. The link is shown first so you can read where it leads; you open it with the Open link button. A link from an unknown sticker deserves a look before tapping.

Install it as an app

Chrome, Edge and Android browsers offer to install this site from the address bar or the menu; on iPhone use Share, then Add to Home Screen. It opens like an app, keeps working offline and still processes everything on your device.
