Scan to PDF

Point the camera at a page or pick photos: the edges are found, the page is straightened and cleaned, and you save one PDF. Nothing is uploaded.

Scan a document

Use the camera or choose photos of documents (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC). Everything stays on this device.

Hold the phone straight above the page

How it works

  1. Tap Scan with camera and hold the phone over the page: it takes the picture on its own when the page is still, or press the button. You can also choose photos from your gallery.
  2. Check the pages: open one to move its corners (a magnifier shows the exact spot), turn it or change the filter; drag pages to reorder them.
  3. Pick the page format and tap Save PDF; then compress, sign or protect it without uploading anything.

A scanner in the browser, no app to install

Open the page on your phone, tap Scan with camera and hold it over the paper: the picture is taken on its own when the page is still, the edges are found and the page is straightened and cleaned. Keep going for the next pages, up to 100 per scan, then drag them into order. The pages live only in this browser's storage on your device, so you can put the phone down and come back later, and nothing is uploaded at any point.

Receipts, ID cards, books and whiteboards

The What are you scanning? choice tunes the result. Receipt handles long, narrow paper and can join several photos of one long receipt into a single strip. ID card uses the card's real proportions. Book notices a curved page, flattens the text lines and can split the photo at the fold into two pages. Whiteboard lifts the glare and keeps the marker colors. Fingers at the edges can be painted over and shadows lifted before you save.

Searchable, small, or made for archiving

Tick Searchable text (OCR) and the printed words are recognized on your device and laid invisibly over the picture, so the PDF can be searched and its text copied. Small (about 200 dpi, re-encoded until each page is small) is for email and upload limits, Balanced (300 dpi) is the usual export, Maximum keeps the highest JPEG quality. You can also save JPG or PNG per page, a multi-page TIFF, or a PDF/A-2b for archives, and sign, annotate or black out a part of a page before saving.

Why people use it

  • Free, no account

Every tool is free, with no sign-up, no e-mail address and no limit on how often you use it.

  • Your files stay on your device

The browser opens the file and processes it in memory, on your device. Nothing is uploaded, so nothing can be kept, leaked or looked at.

  • No watermark

The result is yours as it is: no watermark, no branding, no trial version.

  • Any device

A phone, a tablet or a computer with a current browser is enough: no app to install, no software to update.

  • Works offline after the first visit

The browser keeps the pages and their engines, so a tool you have opened once keeps working without a connection.

  • Open-source engines

The code that does the work is open-source software, named on the Licences page, running as WebAssembly in your browser.

Why it is private

Everything you type or drop here is handled by your browser, on your device. Nothing is uploaded. To verify, open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and use the tool: you will see no request carrying your data.

While a file is being processed, the counter under the result shows the page's network traffic: 0 requests and 0 B for your data.

How to check it yourself, step by step

What you can check yourself

Open your browser's developer tools on the Network tab before you drop a file: while the tool works you will see no request carrying your data, and the counter under every result shows the page's own measurement.

The site sets no cookies, so there is no cookie banner. Anonymous usage counts and error reports without file names are the only things that leave the page, as the privacy policy describes.

Every change goes through thousands of automated tests in three browser engines, including a guard that fails a test if a single byte of a file leaves the page.

How we test

Frequently asked questions

Are my documents uploaded?
No. Detection, straightening, filters and the PDF are all made in your browser. The pages are kept only in this browser's storage on your device, so a refresh does not lose them, until you tap Start over.
What if the edges are not found?
Place the corners yourself: drag each one onto the corner of the paper with the magnifier, or focus it and use the arrow keys. The original photo is always kept.
Which filter should I use?
Auto picks Natural for color documents and anything with stamps or signatures, and Black & white for plain text. Grayscale and Original are there too; a filter can be changed at any time and compared with the unfiltered page.
How is the page size chosen?
Auto estimates the paper's proportions from the photo and says it is an estimate. If you know the format, pick it: A4, Letter, ID card, receipt, business card or as photographed.
Does it work without a camera?
Yes. Choose JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC photos: they go through the same detection and cleaning as camera pictures.
Can I scan several pages into one PDF?
Yes, up to 100 pages per scan. Photograph them one after another or pick them from the gallery, drag them into order and save a single PDF.
Is the scanned PDF searchable?
Yes, if you tick Searchable text (OCR) before saving. Printed text in the language you choose is recognized on your device; the picture of the page is not changed.
Does it read handwriting?
No. The text recognition works on printed text. Handwritten pages are scanned perfectly well as images, they just cannot be searched.
Can I sign the scan or black out a part of it?
Yes. Open a page and use Sign, Text, Highlight or Redact. A redaction removes the pixels for good, on this device too, so the covered text cannot be recovered from the PDF.
How do I get the PDF under an upload limit?
Choose the Small preset and the Black and white filter for text pages; the size shown updates as you change them. If it is still too large, run the PDF through Compress PDF afterwards.

Install it as an app

Chrome, Edge and Android browsers offer to install this site from the address bar or the menu; on iPhone use Share, then Add to Home Screen. It opens like an app, keeps working offline and still processes everything on your device.
