Convert OPUS to MP3

Voice notes from WhatsApp arrive as .opus files and Telegram audio often as .ogg; both carry Opus, a codec made for speech over slow connections. It sounds good and it is tiny, but a car stereo, an older laptop player, a transcription service or a lawyer's office will often not open it. MP3 opens everywhere. This page opens the converter with MP3 already selected; drop one note or fifty and each becomes an MP3 with the same name.

Options

Edit title, artist, album

Empty fields keep the source's own; the cover art is kept. Applies to every file in the list.

The conversion runs in your browser: the file is decoded by the browser and encoded with LAME, a small file the page fetches the first time you choose MP3. Bitrate on Automatic gives 192 kbit/s; for a voice that is more than needed, so the Voice preset, 64 kbit/s mono, keeps a ten-minute note small without changing how it sounds. Nothing is uploaded, and the result plays on the page before you save it.

Tips

  • To get a note out of WhatsApp: long-press it, choose Forward or Share, then Save to Files (iPhone) or a file manager (Android). Exporting the chat with media gives you every note as .opus in one folder.
  • Only need a part? Use Continue with and Trim audio under the result, or trim first and convert the cut.
  • Title, artist and album can be written into the MP3 from Edit title, artist, album; useful when the notes go into a music app or an evidence folder.

Why it is private

Everything you type or drop here is handled by your browser, on your device. Nothing is uploaded. To verify, open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and use the tool: you will see no request carrying your data.

Frequently asked questions

Will the MP3 sound worse than the voice note?
Opus to MP3 is a lossy-to-lossy conversion, so a little detail goes each time; on speech at 64 kbit/s or more the difference is not audible. Convert the original note, not a copy that was already converted.
Why is my .ogg file refused?
An .ogg holds Opus or the older Vorbis codec; the tool converts whatever your browser can decode, which covers both in current Chrome, Edge and Firefox. If a file is refused, the message names the reason, and trying another browser on the same device is the quickest fix.
Can I convert many voice notes at once?
Yes, up to 50 per batch. They are converted one after the other and downloaded together as a ZIP, each keeping its name with the .mp3 ending.
