Crop image to a square
Profile pictures, Instagram posts, app icons and marketplace listings all want a square. This page opens the crop tool with the 1:1 ratio preset: the frame stays square whatever corner or edge you drag, so you only decide what to keep. Pick Instagram post as the exact size and the crop is also scaled to 1080×1080 pixels, the size the platform displays.
The crop happens in your browser from the full-resolution image, so the result is as sharp as the original and nothing is uploaded. HEIC photos from an iPhone open directly, and the arrow keys move the frame pixel by pixel.
Tips
- For a profile picture leave a little space around the face; most apps mask the square into a circle.
- Use the thirds grid to put eyes on the upper line: faces look better slightly above the centre.
- A square from a 4:3 photo keeps the full height and trims the sides, so shoot with room on both sides.
Why it is private
Everything you type or drop here is handled by your browser, on your device. Nothing is uploaded. To verify, open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and use the tool: you will see no request carrying your data.
Frequently asked questions
- Does the crop stay sharp?
- Yes. The crop is cut from the full-resolution pixels; PNG and WebP are exact and JPG is re-encoded at quality 92.
- How do I get exactly 1080×1080?
- Choose Instagram post under Exact size: the square crop is resized to 1080×1080 with a Lanczos filter after cutting.
