Scan an ID card to PDF with your phone
A bank, a landlord or an HR department wants a copy of your ID. This page opens the scanner on the ID card format (85.6 × 54 mm, the size of a bank card and of most national ID cards), so each side comes out cropped to the card, straightened and cleaned, not as a photo of a card lying on a table. Photograph the front, then the back: they become two pages of one PDF, made in your browser, with nothing uploaded.
Scan a document
Use the camera or choose photos of documents (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC). Everything stays on this device.
Front first, then the back
Lay the card on a plain, darker surface (a wooden desk, a dark folder) so its edges stand out. The camera follows the card and takes the picture when it is still, or you press the button. Open a page to check its corners with the magnifier, and switch to the Natural filter if the photo of the holder or the hologram matters.
Putting both sides next to each other on one A4 page is not something the tool does yet: you get one card per page. That composition is being built; until then, two pages in one file is what most forms accept.
Tips
- Turn off the flash and keep the card out of direct light: the holographic layer throws glare over the text. Daylight from the side works best.
- On a white sheet the edges of a white card are hard to find: drag the corners yourself; the magnifier shows the exact spot.
- Write the purpose and the date across the copy with the Text annotation ("copy for the rental contract, 31 Oct 2026"): it limits what a leaked copy can be used for.
- Black out what the recipient does not need with Redact: the pixels are removed from the photo itself, permanently, before the PDF is made.
- Choose the Small (e-mail) size when the copy goes by e-mail; the card stays readable.
Why it is private
Everything you type or drop here is handled by your browser, on your device. Nothing is uploaded. To verify, open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and use the tool: you will see no request carrying your data.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I put the front and the back on the same page?
- Not yet: each side is one page of the PDF. Composing both sides on one page is being built. If someone insists on one A4 page today, save as JPG per page and run the two images through JPG to PDF with A4 pages.
- Is the card uploaded anywhere?
- No. Detection, cropping, filters and the PDF are made in your browser; the photos are kept only in this browser's storage on your device until you tap Start over.
- Why is the page the size of the card and not A4?
- The ID card format keeps the real proportions, so the sides are not stretched and a print comes out at the actual size. Choosing A4 would treat the card as a sheet of A4 paper and distort it.
