Scan receipts to PDF with your phone
Receipts are the worst documents to photograph: narrow, curled, printed in grey on shiny thermal paper, and nobody wants a 4 MB colour photo of each one. This page opens the scanner with the Receipt format (an 80 mm wide strip, any length) and the Black & white filter, so each receipt becomes a clean strip of black text on white, one page per receipt, in one PDF made in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Hold the whole receipt in view; take it in parts if it is long
The Receipt format has no fixed height: a long receipt is one long page, as long as the whole strip fits in the picture. Black-and-white pages are stored as CCITT G4, a lossless fax encoding that is usually far smaller than a JPEG of the same page, which is what makes a twenty-receipt claim small enough to e-mail.
A receipt longer than the frame has to be photographed in parts, each part a page of its own: stitching the parts into one strip is being built and is not in the tool yet.
Tips
- Flatten a curled receipt under the edge of a book or a glass for a minute before photographing it; the detector wants four corners it can see.
- Faded thermal print: switch that page to Grayscale, or raise the contrast in the editor, and compare before/after at full zoom to make sure the small digits survive.
- Keep the whole strip in the picture: a cut corner stops the auto-capture, and the hint tells you which one.
- Photograph the receipts in the order of the claim; pages can still be dragged into order before saving.
- A stamped or coloured receipt can keep its colours: set that page's filter to Natural.
Why it is private
Everything you type or drop here is handled by your browser, on your device. Nothing is uploaded. To verify, open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and use the tool: you will see no request carrying your data.
Frequently asked questions
- What about a receipt longer than the frame?
- Photograph it in two or three overlapping parts; each part becomes one page. Joining the parts into a single strip is not available yet.
- Why black and white?
- Thermal print has no colour worth keeping, and a black-and-white page stored as CCITT G4 is lossless and usually far smaller than a JPEG. Any page can be switched to another filter at any time.
- Can I add a note or the claim number?
- Yes: the Text annotation writes on the page, and Highlight marks the amount. Both are drawn into the page's picture; a highlighted page is saved as JPEG rather than G4.
