Convert PNG to ICO
A favicon.ico is a container holding the same icon at several sizes, so browsers and Windows can pick the one that fits a tab, a bookmark or a desktop shortcut. This preset builds that container from one picture: the image is centred on a transparent square, then written at 16, 32 and 48 pixels, plus 64, 128 and 256 when the source is large enough. Each entry is a PNG, the form every current browser and Windows 7 and later read.
Options
Everything happens in your browser: the picture is decoded, scaled with a Lanczos filter and packed into the .ico file on your device. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no account to make.
Tips
- Start from a square PNG of at least 256×256 with a transparent background, so the small sizes stay crisp and the icon sits well on any colour.
- Keep the design simple: at 16 pixels fine lines and small text vanish. A bold shape or a single letter reads best.
- Reference it as <link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico"> and also keep a PNG or SVG icon for high-resolution screens.
Why it is private
Everything you type or drop here is handled by your browser, on your device. Nothing is uploaded. To verify, open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and use the tool: you will see no request carrying your data.
Frequently asked questions
- Which sizes does the .ico contain?
- 16, 32 and 48 pixels always, and 64, 128 and 256 pixels when your image is at least that big. Browsers pick the closest size to what they need.
- Can I convert a JPG or SVG to ICO too?
- Yes. Any image the tool opens (JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, HEIC, TIFF, SVG) can be written as an icon; non-square pictures are centred on a transparent square first.
