Add text to a PDF in your browser

This page opens the PDF editor with the Text tool selected. Tap or click where the text should go, type, and set the font, size, colour and alignment; long lines wrap inside the box, which you can move, resize or delete later. Fill a blank on a printed form, add a date and a name, caption a picture or write a remark in the margin.

New text uses a font that carries the letters you type, accents included (a sans, a serif and a monospaced face are built in), so the saved file shows what you saw on screen. On saving, the editor checks that the new text is in the file and the rest of the page is unchanged, then downloads the copy. The file never leaves your device.

Existing text can be changed too, a line or a whole paragraph at a time, where its font allows it; otherwise the substitute is shown before saving. Where a line cannot be edited (text in a picture, text drawn as shapes), write beside it or cover it with a filled rectangle and write on top.

Tips

  • Ctrl+Z undoes a text box; the History panel takes you back to any earlier step.
  • On a scanned page the text is a picture: new text works on top of it, and Text recognition makes the page searchable or turns it into editable text.
  • The same text on every page — a page number, a date, a title — goes in as a header or footer, written as text you can edit afterwards.
  • A table cell is edited in its own box; in a table with a structure in the file, a cell that needs more lines pushes the rows below down, and rows can be inserted or deleted.

Why it is private

Everything you type or drop here is handled by your browser, on your device. Nothing is uploaded. To verify, open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and use the tool: you will see no request carrying your data.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit the text that is already in the PDF?
Yes, a line or a whole paragraph at a time, where its font allows it. Many files carry only the letters they use; if you type one that is missing, the editor shows the line with a substitute font next to the original before you save. Text in pictures and text drawn as shapes cannot be edited; cover it and write new text.
Will the new text look the same in other programs?
Yes. The font used for your text is embedded in the file, so any PDF program draws it the way you saw it here.
